Rebates & Financing, Explained

What Massachusetts will pay toward your new heating system in 2026 — and how 3R makes it painless.

You shouldn’t need a spreadsheet to use your own rebates. Here’s the plain-English version of the 2026 Mass Save® program, what changed this year, and how financing turns a big project into a monthly number.

The 3R difference: your rebate comes off the price at signing.

When your project qualifies, we apply the anticipated Mass Save® rebate as an up-front discount on your estimate and handle the paperwork ourselves. No fronting thousands and waiting months for a check — the savings are built in from day one.

2026 program-year figures; amounts, bonuses, and eligibility rules are set by Mass Save® and can change. Your estimate shows the exact rebate for your specific project. Additional bonuses (e.g., sizing and weatherization) may apply to qualifying projects.

What changed in 2026: the old “$10,000 whole-home” cap is gone — 2026 tops out at $8,500 standard (higher for income-qualified). The federal 25C tax credit expired December 31, 2025. And equipment using R-410A refrigerant no longer qualifies — everything we quote is current-refrigerant, Qualified Product List equipment. Translation: the rebate money is still strong, but the trend is down — waiting doesn’t pay.

How the Rebate Process Works With 3R

1

Mass Save home energy assessment

A no-cost assessment is the program’s entry ticket. If you haven’t had one, we’ll point you to scheduling it — it also unlocks discounted insulation and air-sealing work that makes any new system perform better.

2

We design a qualifying system

As a Mass Save® Heat Pump Installer Network contractor, we quote ENERGY STAR® cold-climate equipment from the Qualified Product List and size it to program requirements — so your project qualifies for the maximum your home is eligible for.

3

Rebate applied at signing

The qualifying rebate amount appears right on your estimate as a discount. We handle pre-approval and submission paperwork on your behalf.

4

Install & done

We install, commission, and complete the program documentation. You never chase a rebate check.

Financing the Rest

Mass Save® HEAT Loan — 0% interest

  • Up to $25,000 at 0% APR for qualifying energy-efficiency projects, through participating lenders
  • Requires the energy assessment and program approval — we’ll walk you through the steps
  • Often the single biggest money-saver after the rebate itself

Flexible monthly financing

  • Through our lending partners (GreenSky® and Synchrony), with promotional and fixed-rate plans on approved credit
  • Apply in minutes — often approved before your estimate visit is over
  • Turns a five-figure project into a predictable monthly payment, and can bridge timing while a HEAT Loan processes

Common Questions

Yes — when your project qualifies, the anticipated rebate amount is shown and deducted right on your estimate, per the terms on that estimate. We submit the program paperwork on your behalf. It’s one of the most common reasons homeowners choose us over contractors who make you front the money and file yourself.
Most homes qualify for something. Partial-home/dual-fuel projects earn $1,125 per ton (up to $8,500), and adding zones to part of the house is a popular, budget-friendly path. We’ll show you exactly which tier your options fall into.
Eligibility is based on household income relative to state thresholds, verified through the program. If you might qualify, it’s absolutely worth checking — enhanced incentives reach up to $16,000, and some households qualify for no-cost replacement through the Turnkey program. Ask us and we’ll point you to the verification steps.
The federal 25C credit (up to $2,000 for heat pumps) expired December 31, 2025 and does not apply to 2026 installations. The Mass Save rebate and 0% HEAT Loan are now the main incentives — another reason the state program matters more than ever. We don’t provide tax advice; consult your tax professional for your situation.
Mass Save offers incentives beyond heat pumps — including heat pump water heaters ($750) and other efficiency measures. Programs vary by equipment and fuel; when we quote your project, every incentive it qualifies for is included.
Amounts are set per program year and have been trending down — 2026’s cap is $1,500 lower than 2025’s. Funding and rules can also change mid-year. The estimate we give you locks in what we can control; the program controls the rest, which is a real reason not to sit on a decision for months.

The Fine Print

Third-party programs

Mass Save® rebates, enhanced incentives, the HEAT Loan, and any utility or government incentive are offered by third parties — not by 3R Plumbing & Mechanical — and are subject to their own eligibility rules, funding availability, program terms, caps, deadlines, and verification. Amounts and rules shown reflect the 2026 program year as published at the time this page was written and can change without notice. Your signed estimate states the exact incentive treatment for your project; if this page differs from your signed estimate or from official program materials, those control. Mass Save® is a registered trademark of its program sponsors; 3R is an independent participating contractor.

Rebate-at-signing treatment

Where 3R applies an anticipated rebate as an up-front discount, that treatment — including any conditions relating to program approval and homeowner cooperation with required documentation — is per the terms on your signed estimate.

Financing

Financing, including the Mass Save® HEAT Loan and plans through GreenSky®, Synchrony, or other lenders, is subject to credit approval and governed entirely by the lender’s terms, rates, and disclosures. 3R is not a lender. Promotional terms vary and may change.

No tax advice

Nothing on this page is tax advice. Consult your tax professional regarding any credit, deduction, or incentive as it applies to you.
